My experience of obtaining Police Character Certificate in 2023

 2.   What is a Police Character Certificate?

 

A Police Character Certificate is a certificate issued by Police on the request of applicant.  This Certificate contains the detail about any criminal record of applicant along with name of applicant, his father name, CNIC number, passport number, date of birth place and period of stay and the country for which character certificate has been issued.

 

If no criminal record exists of applicant, the police may mention "No Record Found till date" or other words such like those on the Character Certificate. If any criminal record is found, the police may mention its reference.

 

3.   Uses of Police Character Certificate?

 

A Police Character Certificate can be used in support of getting foreign employment, permanent shifting to foreign country/ Immigration. A Police Character Certificate may also be used in support of application for other non Immigrant Visas like Student Visa, Visit Visa etc.

 

4.   Forum, at which you can apply for character certificate.

 

 

In Punjab, nowadays you can approach to concerned E-Khidmat Centre / Markaz for applying and getting police certificate issued. Though, a Certificate is actually issued by Police Department but same is issued through E-Khidmat Centre.

 

You are not required to approach any police station, office of DSP or DPO or CPO office.

 

However before this, the process was so much difficult and tricky one, in which you were required to approach to CPO/DPO office for getting application form and after getting it attested from your local councilor or Nazim etc, you were required to submit it again in CPO/DPO office. You might needed go to Police Station or DSP office for verification etc. But currently, this process doe not apply and has become very under just one window operation as detailed above.

 

After submission, the DPO/CPO office used to take many days in issuing a character certificate but nowadays it can be given within 3 days.

 

5.   Documents required for character certificate.

 

  • CNIC copy of applicant + Original  
  • Passport copy (latest) + Original  
  • Authority Letter, may be needed, if applicant is not

available and another person on his behalf if applying for  character certificate.

 

 

(The Requirement of submission of Affidavit on stamp paper has been removed).

 

6.   Character Certificate fees

 

Character certificate fee is Rs. 500/-. Be noted, earlier there was no official fee for character certificate.

  

 

7.   Process involved and receipts issued during process of issuance of police certificate.

                          

If you have gathered the documents, go to concerned E-Khidmat Markaz, where following steps may be taken:-


  • Token will be issued for character certificate processing
  • Your photograph will be taken.
  • Your particulars will be entered in system by the staff.
  • You will be give a receipt  which  you will need at the time of collection of your  character certificate. Following is the picture of receipt

8.   Time of delivery:

 

After you have applied in E-Khidmat Centre, it may take 3 days for delivery of police character certificate to you.

 

9.   Validity of Character Certificate Police.

 

A Police Character Certificate is valid for 6 months i.e 180 days.

 

10. Information about the process of issuance of police certificate from Police and not by E-Khidmat Markaz.

 

Earlier, it was not easy task to get police character certificate because you were required to officer of District Police like DPO/CPO. A Form was used to be provided which was required to be filled. After filling it, it  was required to be attested by concerned Counselor / Nazim etc. The applicant might have been required  to appear before police like Police Station, DSP/ASP office etc, and there was a chance of demanding bribe by the police, which has now been tackled by introduction of above said system.

 

 

The above said Process, which I followed and obtained Character Certificate Police.
